The owner of a local convenience store is arrested for selling synthetic drugs.

Boone County Deputies say 59-year-old Rafiqul Khan of Columbia turned himself in at the Boone County Courthouse earlier this month. He’s the owner of Mari’s Convenience Store on Prathersville Road.

Deputies got their first complaint about the store in 2011, and got a sample of the offending substance during their investigation. They say lab tests show it is a drug known as “4-FMA,” which is essentially synthetic meth.

Khan is charged in Boone County Court with distributing a controlled substance. He’s out on bond, and his next court date is scheduled for June 19th.

Both teams scored runs in the third inning after the Angels took the lead on a KC wild pitch and the Royals tied it with a solo home run by Miguel Tejada. The Royals took a brief lead in the bottom of the fifth on a Chris Getz single but gave it right back in the next half-inning on a solo home run by Chris Ianetta, his second of the series.

The Angels struck with three in the seventh on an RBI-single by Mark Trumbo, a sacrifice fly by Howie Kendrick and a run-scoring double by former Royal Alberto Callaspo.

After winning their first three games of the month, the Royals have won just four times since then, losing 13 of 17.

KC sends Jeremy Guthrie to hill Saturday, who has dropped his last two starts after starting the year 5-0. Los Angeles counters with former Royal Billy Buckner, making his Angels debut in the 1:10 PM contest.

Fueled by the momentum of a home-run robbing catch by Kylee Lahners on Mackenzie Sykes in the top of the first, Victoria Hayward smacked a leadoff home run in the bottom of the frame to give Washington the only offense they needed for the victory.

Bryana Walker shut the Tigers down allowing no hits through the first five innings of her outing. Walker allowed Missouri’s only two hits in the top of the sixth, but Kaitlin Inglesby came in and induced three ground-ball outs to elude the jam. Ingelsby finished off the game with a two-inning save.

Washington is the first team to punch its ticket to the Women’s College World Series, while Missouri bows out in the Super Regional Round for the second consecutive season.

***UPDATE***

MUPD arrested Dominique Powell of Hallsville at about 10:29 a.m. Friday. He’s charged with Second Degree Robbery, Harassment, and Aggravated Stalking. He was still in the Boone Co. Jail early Saturday.

***ORIGINAL STORY***

MU Police are looking for the man who went into University Hospital to harass one woman, and assault another.

Dominique Powell, 22, was walking around the hospital for a while late Thursday morning, asking to see an employee he knew. Then, he went up to a different woman, and asked for her money. When she refused, he kicked her in the shin. The woman got away to call hospital security, and Powell left in a car driven by someone else.

MUPD Captain Brian Weimer says this isn’t the first run-in they’ve had with Powell. He’s been accused of going into people’s homes without permission.

“We found out who he was through contacts that we’ve had with him before, so we wanted to make sure that we notified the community because we’ve had problems with him in the past,” Capt. Weimer says.

Weimer says officers have filed attempted robbery, assault, and harassment charges against Powell.

Just because the Missouri legislative session is done, that doesn’t mean the spat over the Department of Revenue sharing and scanning documents takes a break.

State lawmakers only guaranteed eight months worth of funding for the Revenue Department, with the rest of the funding coming if they stop putting your personal info into an electronic database. Sen. Kurt Schaefer says Gov. Jay Nixon is threatening to treat that like the full fiscal year budget, and start making cuts…

“The governor’s position basically is shooting the hostages. ‘If you make my agency comply with the law, then we’re just gonna hold Missourians hostage and say nobody gets a driver’s license,’” Sen. Schaefer says. “Our response is what we want is for you to comply with the law, and we’re gonna use every tool in the tool box.”

He, Senate President Tom Dempsey, and an interim committee will look through boxes of documents from the Department of Revenue. Schaefer subpoenaed the department, trying to get more info about the sharing and electronic scanning of some of your personal info.

“It takes an awful long time to go through each one of those boxes, tens of thousands of documents, but there’s quite a treasure trove in there. When we find someone that clearly has information that indicates they’re doing something they shouldn’t do, we’ll bring them in front of the committee.”

Schaefer, a Columbia native who represents Boone and Cooper counties, joined us live on The Eagle’s Wake Up Columbia Thursday morning. He says he’s gotten more calls from constituents about the Department of Revenue controversy than any other issue while in office.

He tried to take some t-shirts, so Jefferson City police took him to jail.

Officers went to the Kohl’s on Stoneridge Parkway for a shoplifting call Wednesday afternoon. When they got there, employees had 31-year-old Brian Carpenter of Jefferson City pinned on the ground.

Captain Doug Shoemaker says the workers stopped Carpenter when he tried to leave with some merchandise stashed in his shorts.

“They had confronted him and asked him to come back in, but he refused,” Capt. Shoemaker says. “In doing so, he assaulted the employees by pushing them.”

Shoemaker says the shoving was enough to arrest Carpenter for a strong-arm robbery instead of shoplifting. Carpenter is charged with stealing and pot possession, and is being held in the Cole County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) – After a wrenching debate, local leaders of the Boy Scouts of America have voted to open their ranks to openly gay boys for the first time.

However, heated reactions from the left and right make clear that the BSA’s controversies are far from over.

The Scouts’ ban on gay adults remains in force, and many liberal Scout leaders – as well as gay-rights groups – plan to press for an end to that exclusion.

Meanwhile, many conservatives within the Scouts are distraught at the outcome of the vote and some are threatening to defect.

The vote was conducted by secret ballot Thursday during the National Council’s annual meeting. Of the roughly 1,400 members of the council who cast ballots, 61 percent supported the proposal.

Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, Chris Ianetta and Mark Trumbo all went deep off Santana, who dropped to 3-4 on the year. He pitched well outside of the long balls, striking out eight and allowing four hits outside of the homers.

The Royals plated runs in the fourth and fifth, and scored twice in the ninth, putting the tying run on second. Alcides Escobar had a chance to level the game, but flew out to end the affair.

The loss for the Royals was the sixth in seven games. Luis Mendoza will try and right the ship against Jason Vargas Friday at 7:10 PM.
