Baseball Gets First Win, Sweeps Doubleheader

It took 10 days, but the Missouri Tigers finally hit the field Wednesday afternoon. After a historic (but dubious) start to the season, the Mizzou baseball team found comfort in front of their own fans as they swept a doubleheader from Eastern Michigan on Wednesday 1-0 and 7-1.

In the first game, Jace James held the Eagles at bay for 6 innings as the Tigers won 1-0.  James pitched 6 innings of 1 hit ball while striking out 5 and walking 3.  He picked up his first victory as a Tiger.  Breckin Williams got his first save of the season.

Keaton Steele took the mound for the second game and was almost as good as James.  He pitched 5 scoreless innings, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 3.  The victory was also his first of the season.

The star of the day, however, was Kendall Keeton.  After Scott Sommerfeld doubled in the fifth inning of the first game, Keeton drove him home with a single.  In the second game, Keeton batted leadoff and scored in the first and fourth innings.  He drove in his second RBI of the afternoon in the fourth inning as well, driving in Josh Lester to make the score 3-0.  Dylan Kelly would later single home Keeton, Logan Pearson, and Nick Moore to make the score 6-0.  Mizzou would go on to win the second game 7-1.

With the wins, Missouri is 2-6 on the season and now prepares to face the San Francisco Dons in a three game series this weekend at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.  First pitch Friday comes at 6pm.  Pregame begins at 5:45pm on your home for Missouri Baseball, ESPN 100.5 and total sports station 103.1 KTGR.
