Thip Thai brings authentic taste to Columbia

You don’t have to look hard to find good Thai food in Columbia.  Bangkok Gardens is one of the more popular ethnic restaurants in Columbia, and has held the title of the go to Thai restaurant in Columbia for years now. Chim’s Thai Kitchen is also a popular staple downtown.

However, there is a new kid on the block looking to stir up some competition.  Thip Thai has recently thrown its hat into the ring as an alternative Thai cuisine for Columbia residents.

Located at a prime spot on the downtown strip of Broadway, Thip Thai has a chance to be a successful addition to the ever-growing ethnic culinary scene in Columbia.

Thip Thai serves up the traditional Thai dishes: pad thai, curry, papaya salad and a variety of other tasty delicacies. For curry lovers, Thip Thai offers five different types: yellow, green, red, panang and massaman.

However, for first time visitors, the Double Noodles are a must try.  A house specialty, the dish features pad thai covered in curry sauce. The mixture provides a unique blend of flavors, offering something different and new for frequent Thai food eaters. The creaminess of the curry is a welcome addition to the traditional pad thai dish. The curry used in the dish is not overwhelmingly spicy, but has just enough kick to perk up your taste buds.

Even if Thai food is not your cup of tea, the menu has other options to choose from like fried rice, crab rangoon, egg rolls and pot stickers.

The portions are giant, even during lunch, so be prepared to bring home leftovers.

The atmosphere has a distinct a modern feel.  The decor, for the most part, is on the minimalist side. However, the giant mural on the wall adds a traditional Eastern Asian flare, saving the restaurant from having a barren feeling.

Overall, Thip Thai is worth a try for Thai food lovers looking for some variety.  Even if you aren’t a Thai food aficionado, but like to try new things, give it a shot. Hopefully, they will join Bangkok Gardens and Chim’s Thai Kitchen as the next Thai staple in Columbia.

Thip Thai is located at 904 E. Broadway, previously Crazy Noodle. They are open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Visit their Facebook page for more information.
